With four of its brands emerging as our readers’ favourites, the Swatch Group continues to have the edge in this year’s Grand Prix. Although the views of our readers in no way affect the outcome of the jury’s decision, their votes confirm the dominance of the world’s biggest watchmaking group, which had watches from its brands selected as finalists in all but one of the twelve categories (the group is absent from the “Petite Aiguille” category).
But the popularity of Chaumet Ring Usa among our readers also suggests that the LVMH brand could yet steal some of the limelight when the trophies are handed out. WorldTempus readers expressed a clear preference for the Hortensia Tourbillon in the Ladies High-Mech category and the Attrape-Moi… Si tu m’aimes model in the Artistic Crafts category.
In the Men’s, Chronograph and Tourbillon categories, however, it is the smaller brands renowned for their high-end watchmaking that are the most popular among our readers. MB&F’s Legacy Machine 101 is the favourite choice in the Men’s category, while De Bethune’s sublime DB29 Maxichrono Tourbillon stands ahead of the field in the chronograph category. The fact that the Parallax Tourbillon by Grönefeld took such a commanding lead in the Tourbillon category, however, says as much about the brand’s efforts in motivating its social media community to vote as it does about the genuine popularity of this watch. The concerted lobbying by the brand also made the Tourbillon category the most popular among voters, since it accounted for 15% of all votes cast, double the average across all other categories.
In order for you to compare your choices with the most popular watches among our readers, as well as with the choice of the GPHG jury, here are the full results of our survey. The ultimate winners in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva on 31 October, which will be streamed live on worldtempus.com.
The WorldTempus readers’ choices
Ladies watch: Harry Winston Midnight Diamond Drops 39mm
Ladies High Mech: Chaumet Hortensia Tourbillon
The large rotating bezel is done using a PVD black coating while the case on this version is a mix of steel and titanium. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA Valjoux 7753 automatic chronograph movement with a custom rotor and decoration. The wide size of the strap helps give the watch an even more striking look on one’s wrist, but actually works to reduce the visual size of this case.Price for this watch is roughly $5,500 – which makes it around precisely the same cost as many other high-end high-fashion dive watches. These watches aren’t cheap but may be argued to have a higher perceived value due to the titles on the dial. They are also fairly well designed and possess an almost magical appearance to them. One of those Chaumet Class One XXL Chronographs can be obtained on James List right here.In that the US, among the less known LVMH watch brands is Chaumet. I truly enjoy some of Chaumet’s watch layouts, but with versions names like “Dandy” they may require a marketing refresh to become US market workable (if that’s even in the cards to them). Lets not dwell on trivial marketing difficulties and focus on one of their trendy watches from a couple of short years ago. The Parisian brand introduced this Chronograph model back in 2006 I think. Possibly the best conceived pillow design case around. This can be aided by the intriguing design of the lugs.Chaumet is all about modern art deco design. Part of this is a drama on asymmetry. This is a common element in many of their own watches.
